Prepare for the unexpected

Regardless of who you are, we have a class for you.

Wilderness first aid

Duration: 16 hours
Certification:  Wilderness First Aid, Epinephrine Auto-Injector - valid for two years
Is it for me? Short answer - yes!
                       Do you recreate, live, or work in areas where medical assistance is greater than one hour away?
                       Do you want to be prepared to respond to an injury or illness when it arises?
                       Are you unsure about how to use the items in your first aid kit, if you even carry a kit?
Course Format: Fully in person, the WFA is a combination of lecture, skills labs, and medical scenario practice and provides time for participants to ask questions and receive feedback from instructors.

Outdoor first aid

Duration: Self-paced with online content delivered over 6 weeks
Certification:  Certificate of completion, no certification
Is it for me? Are you a self-motivated learner who is curious about wilderness medicine topics, but does not need a        
                       formal classroom environment to learn?
                       Do you recreate, live, or work in areas where medical assistance is greater than one hour away?
                       Do you want to be prepared to respond to an injury or illness when it arises?
                       Are you unsure about how to use the items in your first aid kit, if you even carry a kit?
Course Format: Fully online, the Outdoor First Aid course is a combination of whiteboard presentations, lectures, and skills videos that are supplemented by resources to support at home practice.  

First Aid for Remote industry

Duration: 16 hours over two days
Certification:  First Aid for Remote Industry, CPR/AED for Adults, Epinephrine Auto-Injector - valid for two years
Is it for me? Does your job require that you work in remote locations, but with the intention of returning to the office or      
                        to a supported basecamp at the end of the day?
                        Does a standard "hold pressure and dial 9-1-1" not apply to your emergency response needs?
                        Are you looking for training that meets OSHA requirements and is still both hands on and focused on areas
                        where medical response is delayed?
Course Format: The FARI takes place fully in-person, typically on site at the hosting organization.  Class is a combination of lecture, skills labs and practice, medical scenarios, and discussion that supports specific organizational/area needs. CPR certification requires passing a short written test. 

Wilderness First RespondeR - Hybrid Model

Duration:
  • 35+ hours of self-paced pre-learning.  Includes readings and online materials (lectures, quizzes, assignments, and activities)
  • 45 hours of in-person classroom time focused on knowledge and skills demonstration.

Certification:  Wilderness First Responder, CPR, Epinephrine Auto-Injector - valid for two years
Is it for me? Do you recreate, live, or work in areas where medical assistance is greater than one hour away?
                       Are you responsible for the health and medical care of others while traveling in remote environments?
                       Are you interested in learning about and practicing wilderness medicine skills including long-term patient        
                       care, litter carries, spine care, and dislocation reduction?
                       No previous wilderness medicine training is required.

Course Format: Fully in person, the WFR is a combination of lecture, skills labs, and medical scenario practice.  Course includes two longer duration medical scenarios and a written test.  The longer course format provides ample time for participants to learn and practice skills, and to ask questions and receive feedback from instructors.

Wilderness First Responder - Recert

Duration: 24 hours - hybrid model with online content and in-person class time
Certification:  Wilderness First Responder, CPR, Epinephrine Auto-Injector - valid for two years
Is it for me? Do you have a valid WFR certification or one that is in the previous certifying organization's grace period?Course Format: The course consists of some pre-course, self-paced learning as well as two days of in-person class time.  The WFR-Recert is a combination of lecture, skills labs, scenarios, and discussion that allows an in-depth review of WFR level skills.  Certification requires passing a written test.
