ABOUT THE WFR
LWM's Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is designed to prepare participants to confidently assess, manage, and make critical decisions during medical emergencies in remote and low-resource environments where definitive care may be delayed.
This comprehensive 80-hour hybrid course blends foundational knowledge with hands-on application. Students complete approximately 35 hours of self-paced online learning to build core medical understanding, followed by 45 hours of in-person instruction focused on skill development and real-world application. The in-person portion emphasizes hands-on labs, patient assessment practice, treatment simulations, and realistic medical scenarios that strengthen critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership under pressure.
At the end of the 80-hour WFR course, participants will have both the knowledge and skills to:

- Stabilize life-threatening injuries
- Create and manage patient care in limited resource environments
- Coordinate evacuation
- Lead under pressure
Certification information
Successful completion is based on attendance, participation, demonstration of skill competence, and a written exam. Participants who meet completion requirements will receive the following certifications:
Certification Length: 2 years + 1 year of additional certification with completion of continuing education
- Wilderness First Responder
- CPR and AED for Adults and Children
- Epinephrine Auto-Injector Administration
Certification Length: 2 years + 1 year of additional certification with completion of continuing education

Continuing Education
This CE activity is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) for 70 BEMT CEH.

Additional Information
- The LWM Wilderness First Responder course meets the WFR certification standards set by the Wilderness Medicine Education Collaborative.
- The LWM Wilderness First Responder training meets the American Camp Association 2012 Standards and is an accepted Wilderness First Aid provider of the Boy Scouts of America.
- LWM's certification is nationally recognized and, with training officer approval, can be used for NREMT continuing education.
- Fellowship of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) credits are available after participation in the WFR course.
